A road trip and through the heads...

Not having to work sounds easy, but I've been busy enough....a solo road trip to Byron Bay was a change, sleeping in the van and delivering unsold paintings back to Norval Watson. It was a careful study of future stopover points too, with my first night's sleep at the beautiful little Bobbin Head marina just north of Sydney.
And, the Clarence River entrance at Yamba, where I also had my best surf of the trip. The Caravan Park is on the river, and when I arrived in the late afternoon I was pleased to see how easy the bar entrance looked. Hmmm, different story in the morning with a savage tide running out and 4-5' waves breaking all over the place. Lesson learned....keep an eye on the tide! Made for a great little surf though, at Yamba's town beach...
Back home again, and a trip down the Bay on Endurance to overnight in Queenscliff, with my sailing mate Peter Wilson. Some beaut 22 knot gusts on the way down, and our first "unsupervised" cruise out through Port Phillip's notorious Rip. No worries....we had planned carefully with the tide and had gone out at Slack Water.
It was a slow old trip home though with barely a breath of wind, and dead glassy water as we passed by Portarlington on the way back in.
Next job for the week was to attack some varnishing. Which sounds easy enough, but involves a lot of sanding first, then six coats of varnish, each of which takes 24 hours to dry. So, it's a major commitment but I quite enjoy it anyway.

    Grant the
    bloggist.

I'm writing this blog primarily so that I can remember what we've done....it doesn't take long for all of these experiences to melt together and become confused in memory.
It's also a great way of keeping in touch with others, and if I can entertain, and/or enlighten someone else, it's a bonus.
The archives go back to the beginning of our adventures since sailing out of Geelong.
