A trip around the Bay

Our first big week away on the boat! Still on the Bunny Slopes of Port Phillip Bay, but a milestone nevertheless. Off to Brighton Yacht Club on a sunny Thursday, then the weekend hard at work doing the Day Skipper theory course. Oooh, my brain hurts. Tidal curves, bell graphs, tidal streams, course plotting, all the mathematical bits that I tend to avoid, all served up in the classroom over two intense days. It felt good to escape on the Monday and actually go somewhere on the boat rather than just studying about it.
It was off to Mornington in very light wind, but a good chance to practice some of those newfound navigation and pilotage skills. And Mornington was a delight, pumping up the dinghy and launching her for the trip into shore from our calm anchorage in the middle of the bay. Crystal clear water, beautiful surroundings, why haven't I ever been here before?
The next day it was back to Melbourne and the journey up the Yarra to Docklands. Champagne lunch aboard with Dixie and Roy from Adelaide, then Crosby, Stills and Nash at the Palais, and then finally, the trip home to Geelong and the final settlement on the sale of the business.
So it was a great week, more about pilotage and navigation than sailing, but great experience and we both felt pretty comfortable after seven or eight nights on board.

    Grant the
    bloggist.

I'm writing this blog primarily so that I can remember what we've done....it doesn't take long for all of these experiences to melt together and become confused in memory.
It's also a great way of keeping in touch with others, and if I can entertain, and/or enlighten someone else, it's a bonus.
The archives go back to the beginning of our adventures since sailing out of Geelong.
